hunt kastner is very pleased to be cooperating with the StartPoint Prize by hosting Amalie ‘Sveske’ Ourø in our projekt_room with her installation Performing / Becoming Landscape. Amalie is one of three residents of the StarPoint Prize, a longtime platform for European art graduates. The opening was accompanied by a live performance with the artist and the same evening exhibitions by Zagros Mehrkian at 35m2 and Jamal Ageli at City Surfer Office.
“In this installation and performance I am exploring my human relation to nature. In society we often separate humans from the natural ecosystem, but I am of the strong conviction that humans are still part of nature and so belong in the landscape. To amplify this belief, I set out to blend into idyllic sceneries and attempt to ‘become’ the landscape through live – and recorded performance. In this playful installation the viewer has to glimpse through covered windows to watch these scenes capturing my human struggle to reconnect with the earth and adjust my breath to fit with more than human entities.”
Amalie ‘Sveske’ Ourø is a Danish artist who has been living, studying and working in the Netherlands since 2018, she graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in 2022. She exhibited at Ron Mandos Gallery (Amsterdam), De Tweede Kamer (Den Haag), The Long Now (San Francisco), Arti et Amicitiae (Amsterdam), and the Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam).
Her work, mostly performative and community-based, can be best described as art-anthropology and is inspired by her curiosity about human existence and the inner workings of our society. Through her installations she actively engages with the audience through acts of play and subversion, inviting them to think critically about diverse societal urgencies within the field of sociology, urbanism, and ecology.
During October and November, the StartPoint residency program together with MeetFactory presents the works of two other artists in the Žižkov galleries City Surfer Office (Jamal Ageli) and 35m2 (Zagros Mehrkian).
